Dr. Dubé Discusses Restricting Teenagers’ AI Use in La Presse

October 27, 2026

TLC Lab Director Dr. Adam Dubé was featured in La Presse in an article examining whether access to artificial intelligence should be restricted for teenagers, particularly in educational settings.

The article, titled Les agents d’IA devraient-ils être interdits aux ados ?, explores growing concerns about the effects of generative AI on adolescents’ learning and mental health. Drawing on international PISA data, Dr. Dubé highlights the negative association between students’ use of AI for schoolwork and their academic performance, with particularly concerning patterns among Canadian students.

The discussion raises questions about whether AI tools, which can increasingly complete academic tasks on behalf of students, may undermine the development of essential knowledge and skills. Dr. Dubé argues that the rapid adoption of generative AI in education has outpaced the evidence supporting its educational benefits and calls for stronger protections for young people.

The interview reflects the TLC Lab’s ongoing research and policy engagement concerning the impact of generative AI on children's learning and development, and the need for evidence-based regulation of emerging technologies.
